POSITION SUMMARY: 

 

The Bridge Program Paraprofessional plays a pivotal role in supporting students during short-term placements as they transition back into their full academic schedules and regular classroom environments. Working as part of a multidisciplinary support team, this role directly assists students in completing assignments, managing academic workloads, and building executive functioning skills. The primary focus of this position is empowering students to achieve academic success, regain confidence, and seamlessly reintegrate into their general education and vocational classrooms.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:

Direct Academic & Instructional Support

• Work directly with individual students and small groups to explain learning concepts, assist with assignment completion, and keep students focused on academic tasks.
• Help students organize, prioritize, and manage their daily and weekly academic workload across all subject areas (including academic and shop/technical coursework).
• Assist students in developing executive functioning skills, including time management, task initiation, note-taking, and organization.
• Support makeup work, credit recovery, and ongoing classroom assignments to prevent students from falling behind while in the program.

Reintegration & Transition Coaching

• Facilitate a supportive, structured environment designed for short-term student placements aimed at gradual classroom reintegration.
• Assist students in developing self-advocacy and coping strategies needed to manage stress and transition smoothly back into standard classroom settings.
• Implement structured check-in/check-out protocols (CICO) and routine academic progress checks to celebrate small wins and build momentum.
• Encourage and reinforce positive behavioral expectations, emotional regulation, and self-monitoring techniques throughout the school day.

Support Team Collaboration & Counseling Coordination

• Work closely with school counselors, school adjustment counselors, and intervention specialists within the Bridge Program to align academic support with student needs.
• Participate in regular team check-ins regarding student progress, behavioral trends, and readiness for increased classroom integration.
• Help track daily attendance, work completion rates, and qualitative progress to assist guidance counselors and administrators in evaluating student exit criteria.

Teacher Interaction & Communication

• Communicate proactively with general education and vocational teachers to gather current assignments, syllabi, tests, and homework expectations for students in the Bridge Program.
• Clarify instructional expectations from teachers to ensure students understand assignment requirements.
• Provide routine updates to classroom teachers on student progress, completed work, and readiness to return to standard instruction.

Room Environment & Student Success Culture

• Maintain a calm, structured, trauma-informed, and academically focused room environment.
• Foster an attitude of encouragement and growth mindset, ensuring students feel supported rather than penalized during their time in the program.
• Assist in maintaining equipment, learning materials, and student physical folders or digital drives.

Other Duties

• Perform other related duties assigned by building administration to support student success and school operations in alignment with bargaining unit agreements.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• High School Diploma required.
• Associate Degree, 60+ college credits, or passing score on the ParaPro Assessment preferred.
• Experience working with high school or middle school students in an academic, intervention, or support role preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to connect with students facing academic or social-emotional challenges; exceptional patience, empathy, active listening, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Organizational Skills: Excellent ability to multi-task, track assignments across multiple classes and subjects, and assist students in organizing their work.
• Technology Proficiency: Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (e.g., Google Classroom, Canvas), school communication tools, and basic computer/chromebook usage.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 

• This is a 10 month position.
• This position is part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Bay Path Teachers Association (Paraprofessionals) and the SWCRVSDC.

SALARY:  Appropriate step on BPTA (Paraprofessionals) pay schedule pursuant to the BPTA (Paraprofessionals) CBA.  Hourly rate ranges from $20.52 - $27.08 per hour.
